New Vampire Hunter Series

Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon

If you enjoy books about all things vampire then try this new series by popular adult author Sherrilyn Kenyon.

From the cover:

At fourteen, Nick Gauthier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, Nick and his quick sarcasm are the stuff of legend...until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity.

This book has it all: vampires, werewolves, flesh-eating zombies, demons...

I love this last part of the description: As if starting high school isn't hard enough, now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chain saw from his principal and keep the zombies from eating his brains all without getting grounded or suspended.

Sounds promising for the first in a new series.

Good Horror!

The Devouring by Simon Holt
If you are looking for something scary this month give The Devouring by Simon Holt a try. This book felt like I was reading a horror movie. It may give you nightmares, so please don't say I didn't warn you!

From Amazon:

Reggie is a horror fanatic. When she finds a journal in a box of used books at the bookstore where she works, she "borrows" it. It tells of the Vours, black smokelike beings that possess humans who can't conquer their fear on Sorry Night (the eve of the winter solstice). Reggie and her friend Aaron attempt to make the Vours materialize but instead they possess her little brother. In a fight to the death, Reggie joins the battle of humanity against the Vours.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

In the blink of an eye everything changes. Seventeen year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall what happened afterward, watching her own damaged body being taken from the wreck. Little by little she struggles to put together the pieces- to figure out what she has lost, what she has left, and the very difficult choice she must make. Heart wrenchingly beautiful, Mia's story will stay with you for a long, long time. (from Barnes & Noble)

Why I picked it up: It kept showing up on all the lists, good reviews, on blogs, etc. I figured I should see what all the hoopla was about.

Why I liked it: Very touching, good characters, heart wrenching is a good word.

Who I would give it to: Teens who like Laurie Halse Anderson and Sarah Dessen.

Keep a Kleenex on hand.

My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent

My Soul To Take by Rachel Vincent

She doesn't see dead people, but…

She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next…

I picked this up on the word of fellow teen fantasy/sci-fi junkie Tyler. I was fascinated by the premise, a modern teenage girl who is a "bean sidhe" or banshee. I am looking forward to the sequel, My Soul to Save which I just put on order. If you are a fan of Twilight, this might be right up your alley.
